In re-reading some emails, I came across something I forgot. PT 195 RON 12 was not the only boat to mount the quad .50 Maxson mount. PT 156 RON 9 under LT. Rex Anderson in 1944, also had one, but theirs was on the stern,replacing the 20MM. They later replaced it with a 40mm.
take care,

Hi Ted, In the early 90's Rex mentioned liberating and installing a Army Quad-50 mount, replacing the stern mounted 20mm Oerlikon Mk-10 in July of 1944. Rex also mentioned the mount was impressive and used a lot of ammunition. This mount was still on the 156 when Rex left the boat in November 1944. Really wish I would have asked Rex more questions about the liberating aspect obtaining this mount. Years later I would learn of a PT Boat Skipper who approached an Army Officer with a request for a Quad 50 mount. The Army provided the mount including training on operation and maintenance. Still looking pictures and info.

Wayne;
Well, I think we can safely say that Officer was either Rex Anderson (PT 156 RON 9) or Bill Diver (PT 195 RON 12).
Take care,

Hi Ted, I'd like to think that too. Bill mentioned liberating 195's Quad 50 sometime in 1944. Both Rex and Bill tended to down play what they did. Appears Bill outdid Rex with the additional aft Mk-12, 20 mm turret. Rex did recognize 195 on page 146 of Al Ross's second Coastal Forces Book . Makes me wonder if Rex and Bill knew each other. Probably just my imagination.
