All;
Frank was in contact with Earl's daughter Dawn, and received word from her that Earl has gone on ahead this morning.
To Earl:
We will all miss you Earl, but tonight we will all hoist our drink of choice to celebrate your wonderful life! I will see you again on the other side....Valhalla!!!
With respect,
TED

I am very sad to hear this, to know that I won't be reading new stories from him. He shared his experiences with us in an interesting way that few writers are capable of. I wish that I could have known him in person, he seemed like a good man with a lot of heart. Rest in peace Earl Richmond, you will be sorely missed.

Earl - - May heaven greet you with open arms and all of your family, friends and shipmates rejoice in the reunion. I’m sure your fellow crew mates of PT 108 have watering mouths in anticipation of another meal from Earl, the specialty fit for kings, “Spam Delight”. Yes, fried Spam, ketchup and peas - a true PT boat delicacy meticulously prepared for your crew.
Fair winds and following seas . . . .
For those who might not be aware, Earl was one of the most senior members of this board going all the way back to the late 1990’s. He will be missed.
Thank you Earl, for your service and educating us on PT boat service in WWII.

I was so sad to hear of Earls passing. He was a very special guy. He helped me immensely when i was doing research on my father in-laws service on PT156.
Since my husband's father died very young and it was discovered he was a gunner's mate on the156, I went in search for information.
I asked veterans questions of what it was like for them so I could compile all their experiences in a book for my husband. Through the veterans experiences we could imagine what it might have been like for his father.
Earl was a dear, dear man that soon became one of my favorite story tellers. He shared with me what the day to day events and feelings of a young man during WWII were. What it was like to ride a troop train, boot camp and more.
I don't think he realized it and it was endearing to me, but it seemed as if no matter what the question was I asked, his response to most of my questions about the life and times of his service always incorporated some story of a girl.
What a treasure he was to me. I will miss not having him to email back and forth.
I last heard from him at the end of January. I will share that with you.

I enjoyed correspondence with Earl! It was amazing how much he would be online here and on Facebook. There are not too many people his age with his experience that where on social media as much as he was (in my opinion). I learned quite a bit from him. He will be missed.

So sad when his daughter Dawn had contacted me to say he had made his last patrol. He was such a wealth of information and I loved talking with him about everything from cooking to everyday life on the boats. As you know Earl was on PT-108 during the war and also Base 17. I shall miss him very much, he was such a great person.

I attended Earl's church service the other week. Put on my Dads old PT tie, so I felt like I took you all with me. Briefly got to speak with his daughter Dawn and her husband Lou. And met her son Bradley ( Smith ) who seems to be interested in what his Grandfather did in PT's. You may see his name pop up on some of our other sites. RIP Earl.
