Always hoping another photo of PT 523 will show up! I have the one from "At Close Quarters" and the one titled "Receiving Message".

Ensign Ray Crandell, TBM Pilot of VC-80, and his air crewman(Gathered around 20MM in tan Flight Suits) being brought back on board by PT-523 from USS Appalachian (AGC 1), after they were shot down over Leyte Island beachhead, Philippines

Great picture Ted. She's loaded for bear, 3 20mm's and a 37mm just on the foredeck wow. There's so much of interest in it, any idea of what the structure is in front of the foremost 20mm? For the what looks like a mortar by / on it maybe?

Jeff
She sure is, I wonder if this is typical of RON 36, I would like to find a photo of PT 529 LT Bryant Larsen's Boat(we know what was his first boat, some guy with a funny accent got it sunk).
The item on the forcastle looks like it has a mortar lying across it. Also notice the Naval Company Bridger Line Gun laying on top of the charthouse. PT 523 also has what looks like either AN M2 or M1919 .30 cal machine guns on pipe mounts both port and starboard spray shields.
Take care,
TED

Thanks Ted! Yes I have this photo. Too bad the stern wasn't in the photo!

BTW: I'm Lt Orrell's cousin - just have the same name!

I checked my photos Robert but all I have is the one Ted posted and the one from navy.mil that I'm guessing is the Receiving Message photo you mentioned http://www.history.navy.mil/our-collections/photography/numerical-list-of-images/nhhc-series/nh-series/80-G-345000/80-G-345817.html

This mortar setup has some similarities to the possible one on the 523 image you posted Ted:

This one is labeled as the 529 Ted but it's not clear enough to positively ID:

Jeff;
Thanks. The bow numbers look more like 526, might be mislabeled.
Take care,
TED
