Arjan;
Zooming in the best I could, it appears the Nickname is painted in script also, it was common for one guy to paint all the name plaques. so the same style script makes sense.
Take care,

Hi Ted, the quality of this pic of PT 515 makes reading a name impossible but I'm pretty sure it also shows a plaque above the side window . Fortunately, we know her name was "Boomerang".

Arjan;
While it is hard to see when enlarged, I think its a safe bet to say this is in the same script as the other two boats.
take care,

In fact, I get the impression that all the boats of Ron 35 had these plaques. Once you focus on these name plates you can identify them in pics of PT 511, 516, 519 and 521.

I think you're likely right Ted but here's a few other name plaques in a simpler text style, maybe from before the artist joined up if all these boats are from the same RON:

Thanks for posting the PT 514 pic Jeff ! I hadn't seen it before but it's a great reference pic. I'm surprised that even in this pic the door of the rubber boat locker cannot be positively identified . I think Tom's interpretation of the position of this door is probably correct but I have my doubts about the raised edge he added. I would be interested in your interpretation of this locker door, after all you spent countless hours poring over pics and translating them into drawings .

You're welcome Arjan. I don't really use PT images in my work thanks to Dick Washichek's Elco drawing DVD other than to verify that I didn't screw something up. One detail is that Elco drawings show no locker until PT 565, those we're seeing on these earlier boats are slightly different in shape. Which you guys are nailing well.
I think the door was flush with the wing. The only thing sticking out beside the latches was a 36 inch by 1 1/2 inch piano hinge along the inboard joint. Layers of paint would have done a good job of obscuring it:
This is from one of Andy's drawings for PT's 613-624 showing the hinge:
You can see a clamshell vent inboard and above the door in this closeup. Something that bothers me is that you can't see any sign of the latches:

Sure thing Arjan, glad to be of service! The bridge door window you added looks good, did the 596 kit omit that detail?

This is the original 596 kit part (there's a spare one in the 109 kit) :
I think the doorpost is too high and wide (I reduced the height and width) and the sloping instrument panel is both too high and not wide enough (I also altered this). I think Italeri based their 596 door on this pic :
I don't know if this was actually an armoured door ?
The measurements of the door and sloping instrument panel of the Italeri PT 109 kit seem to be spot on. The coaming above the doorpost is missing though :
