Good Afternoon,

Drew, by any chance would you have a link to this map you mentioned from this post a few years ago (sorry been gone with work, until recently)? I believe it was a map showing the distance and air routes in degrees between some airfields in the Solomons?

Regards-

I think I've got it saved in my Pictures file somewhere.

I'll try to find it and send it to Dick for posting.

I also have some saved maps that I uploaded to an album. Many are larger than shown, but there are 102 so if you want any in a higher resolution just copy the embed codes for the ones you want and paste them here so they will show up and I can e-mail them to you. Here's the album: http://ptboatforum.com/PhotoGallery/album/IXo If you do want any, e-mail me so I know where to send them.

Thanks Drew! I remember some year ago seeing this map, however I was at a blank as to where.. Reading through some old posts here I became aware that it is was one of the maps you posted.

If I recall it was basic B/W and (as mentioned) showed some Solomon islands and the bearings from one to another. I believe these may have been air routes (?)

Many thanks Jeff for the offer also. I like your collection, however I am good at this time. One thing, in a quick look that I noticed is the photo at the bottom showing "Bau Base"- is this supposed to be the one in Rendova Harbor?

If that is the case, I think the island shown is not Bau Island in Rendova Harbor, having been there myself several times- this can be quickly confirmed by looking at GE. In WW-2 the smalll base also had Quonset huts. I posted some years ago showing some of the foundations one can still see using GE.

The history is right there for everyone to go see. The locals also showed me the rubbish dump- poke around enough and you probably would find items of interest all over the Bau, the Harbor, and nearby Rendova.

Also, in regards to maps if I ever went back to the field I would look at some like this:

https://www.chartsandmaps.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_60&products_id=1763

I hope some of the serious researchers here do have the opportunity to get out to those old base areas, someday some remains will be completly gone, or forgotten. I seen changes everytime I went to Rendova Harbor.

I think the map you're looking for is included in the link Jeff provided to the ones he saved.

Its near the bottom, labeled "New Georgia Area," with the date "15 Nov 1943" at the bottom, a segment at the top right with course headings and distances to various airfields in the Solomons, and a compass at the bottom left.

Drew,

Thank you for the reply, I believe you are correct, in this one I can use for reference- I missed it completely, for some reason I have another one pictured in my mind. I was probably looking at so many map/charts at that time.

Thank you gentlemen, as I can use that info for my notes

You were right Shaneo, there are two Bau Islands. One in Fiji (which the photo is of) and one off Rendova which had a PT base. I must have mistaken the photo as being the PT base Bau.

Jeff, that's the one I believed Shaneo was referring to. So far, my memory's pretty good -- hope it stays that way!

Thanks for posting the map(s).
