Thank you to Bill Smallshaw who discovered this new release from Revell and shared it with me at our club meeting. Also credit to modellmarine.de for putting this article and test shot together. Revell is releasing a 1/72 late Elco PT Boat. This kit is designed to be PT's 588 and 579, both of which are well documented boats. Here is a link to the modellmarine.de site that got a set of sprue shots and put the boat together. Looks pretty good!

There are some aspects of it that make me a little nuts but that's where the aftermarket world comes into play. For example the flat photo etch 37mm rounds wrapped around the magazine look pretty cheesy and would be much better molded or 3D printed in resin. I'll be reaching out to Eduard to see if we can be of assistance.
Here are the photos of the finished model from the site shown above....

Wow Dave who would have thunk it. This is going to be a fantastic addition to anyone's collection. With the advent of 3D parts it would be a breeze to replace the 37mm as an update. In looking at the photo's it looks to be a handsome model and it looks like I have some begging to do with the retired Stan Pienkowski to build it for me. Thanks for the update.

I have been planning a PT-486 model for some time. This kit is much closer than the 109 kit, but it is a generation beyond the 486 class. It always seems hard to get it right in between. I might be able to share parts and structures between the two kits to come up with a 486 class!

Still holding out hope for a 77-footer.

It may be just the photo but both turrets seems to lack the 3 degree forward tilt although the forward turret has the top tilted:
David, you may want to point out that the M9 used a larger round than the M4, the same as used in the M1A2:

Wow! WWII PT boat modeling just gets better and better. A late-war 80' Elco, 56 years after Revell's first release of their "PT 109" kit.
I wonder if this kit has the same split hull as the recently-released new-tool "PT 109" kit.
Hopefully, it won't be that long before someone comes up with an 2nd-series Elco 77-footer.
