Your model is looking good Tom!
The parts manual lists 2 types of antenna, a telescoping MM-435X and an unspecified 2 piece rigid. Here are the application notes for them:
Sectional: No boats listed just a note stating Either can be used on any Elco boat - Interchangeable
Rigid: PT's 486-533, 555-563, and 731-760
A 1942 Premax catalog lists a MM-435 as a 35' 5 section model. I don't know what the X designation in the parts catalog means.
The 1943 Motor Torpedo Boat Manual http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/ref/PT-Manual/MTBM-4.html states:
Antenna.--Whip type--20-foot vertical.
Note that the above manual is for both 77 and 80 foot boats. Many Elco 80 images show an antenna definitely longer that 20 feet.
The joint clamp collars on the telescoping antenna looked like this:
Here's what I came up with for the telescoping antenna when collapsed and extended:

Tom;
To follow up on what Jeff said, I have found no specific length, so far. Just eye balling the PT 513 Port Quarter photo(posted earlier), the Mark Xlll is 13.4167 feet long(161 inches), using this length as a base, the antenna is roughly 24' long.If it is the 435X, it may not be fully extended. Or it may be the two piece rigid model Jeff mentioned.
Take care,
TED
PS: If I find the actual measurement I will post it
.
Here is another good photo that shows the antenna, PT 596 RON 40 Miami shakedown June 1945.
PS2: The TCS-7, -9, -10, -11, -12 Manual (NAVSHIPS 900,291-IB) dated 14 November 1944 only mentions a 20' whip antenna.
However, the WW2 TCS was used on Vietnam-era PTF's and their whip antenna was 25' NT-66053. NT-66053 is a general purpose 25' non-telescoping whip antenna. The lengths are joined together by fitting the adaptor.

Guys,
A few years ago, I contacted the company that made the PT's radio antennae (can't remember the name) during WWII, which was/is still in business.
A company executive emailed me back with the specifications of the antennae, which I posted on the Forum, so... the info is somewhere on the Forum, in an old post.

Copied PREVIOUS POST BY Drew Cook (Dec 17, 2009 - 5:23pm) ALL LINKS WORK:
“I found out they were manufactured by Premax, and that the company still existed, I sent an email to their customer service requesting any information on their World War II antenna products.
Richard Hannah, the General Manager of Premax, was nice enough to sent me a PDF of their twelve-page 1945 catalog, which contains a marine section on "Monel Antennas" (page seven), "developed especially for Navy use." My best guess is that the PT antennas (at least for the 80' Elcos) were the "USM-325 3-section jointed" antennas, which had an extended length of 25 feet and a collapsed length of 9 feet. Tom dK,
That antenna looks really good. Hope I can make one as good when I finally get around to my PT modeling.

Thanks Drew,
I'll bet you will make it a good one.
Arjan, I used a piece of piano wire 0,5mm and drilled out 4 pieces of 1 mm evergreen as connections thinned them down a bit to 0,8mm antenna length 170 mm.
your doing very well with all the extras you put on your boat.
cheers, Tom
