Tom : Your locker is really looking good !
Ted : Thanks for the nice pics! The quality of some of the pics is so good one would think they were made by a professional photographer with a good camera. Looks like Tom and I will have to get ourselves some 1/35 Ron 35 emblems .
Regards,
Arjan

Tom;
Here is more info concerning RON 35 37MM mounts, it is an excerpt of PT BOAT D-DAY PLANNING: PT BOAT OPERATION- ENGLISH CHANNEL 1944 by CDR Arthur N. Barnes, USN RON 35 CO
" 37MM Aircraft cannon, M4.
This gun, although designed for use in aircraft as a fixed mount, has been used successfully by PTs in the Channel area against E-boats and other surface craft not subject to torpedo attack. The gun is mounted on a 20MM Mark XIV pedestal assembly making it a free moving, easily fired and controlled anti-surface weapon. The boats in this command were fitted with (2) 37MM guns, one on either side just forward of the chartroom. The assemblies were made from Mark X assemblies with eight and one-quarter inches cut from the stand so that the Mark Xs resembled the Mark XIV mounts. The legs were welded to steel plates secured to wooden pads mounted on the deck. Loaded with a thirty-round magazine, the weight of gun and ammunition is 306 pounds, entire installation including deck pads is 760 pounds. Placing the 37MM aft just forward of the charthouse improves the stability of the gun in rough seas and clears the bow of the boat so that a better view forward is obtained."
Now even though CDR Barnes wrote this, not all boats recieved 2 37MM's. The most common set up for RON 35 is like your model, 20MM starboard and 37MM Port.
RON 30 (PT 456-461) also mounted 2- 37MM's forward on at least one boat.
PT 459, PT 461, AND ANOTHER, CHERBOURG FRANCE 1944
PT 459 only had the 37MM to Port.
Take care,
TED

Thanks Ted, I've been working on a 37mm for 3D printing and was getting frustrated trying to get the mount right. This explains why I see fairly major differences in what I thought were all Mark 14 mounts. The image you posted shows what could be a Mark 14 and cut down Mark 10, you can see they are different:

Hi Ted ,
Thanks for the photos and the description of the mount for the 37mm.
I made a new one for my model.
I'll think I need to put an empty mounting disk on the spot where the 20mm was originally.
I think most big parts are in place ,detailing wil be done during the final fitting.
Thanks for your input.
happy new year to everybody.

Hi ,
here are some progress photos from my rebuild of the 518 "requisition Joe"
Also a question,on the airvent boxes near the 40mm I found some "piggybags" on 1 of the photos there is a small wire coming out. Someone knows what they are first photo.
I put the rolloff rack about 2cm forward as suggested by Arjan.
And made an extra searchlight stand.
cheers, T |
