Going through the listing of PT losses, and eliminating those that don't fit the category or either date, location, or circumstance, these are the boat losses that remain:
37 Destroyed by enemy warships, off Guadalcanal, February 1, 1943.
111 Destroyed by enemy warships, off Guadalcanal, February 1, 1943.
121 Destroyed by Australian aircraft, Bangula Bay, New Britain, March 27, 1944.
123 Destroyed by enemy aircraft (bombing), off Guadalcanal, February 1, 1943.
166 Destroyed by U.S. aircraft, mistaken identification, off New Georgia, July 20, 1943.
239 Destroyed by fire in port, Lambu Lambu, Vella Lavella, December 14, 1943.
346 Destroyed by U.S. aircraft, near Cape Pomas, New Britain, April 29, 1944.
347 Destroyed by U.S. aircraft, near Cape Pomas, New Britain, April 29, 1944.
353 Destroyed by Australian aircraft, Bangula Bay, New Britain, March 27, 1944.

Thank you!

Reading though the notes on each these are the ones that could qualify..

123 Destroyed by enemy aircraft (bombing), off Guadalcanal, February 1, 1943.
251 Destroyed by enemy shore batteries, off Bougainville, February 26, 1944.
247 Destroyed by enemy shore batteries, off Bougainville, May 5, 1944.

The story of PT-337 seems very spot on to my Grandfathers story, though the Machinist Mate is listed int he story as wounded and by name. Though I suppose it could be possible that he had been on there for another reason. I don't know much about how these boats were crewed.

337 Destroyed by enemy shore batteries, Hansa Bay, New Guinea, March 7, 1944.

Here's the report of the loss of the 337 - for those that are interested. Unfortunately, Gerald Seller isn't listed.

Charles Mooney was on the 216 in Ron 15.

My Dad was on board the night he was wounded, along with several others,
