I have been informed that Ed Harwart of Elmhurst, IL has passed away over the weekend. I believe that Ed was part of the base crew that helped to establish Base 17 in the Phillippines.
Ed and his wife, Jane, liked to get together with the PT Boaters that he would meet at the various Bull Sessions that were held in Illinois and Wisconsin. I know that he was an eager participant in the Bull Sessions that were held in Batavia, IL, Sterling, Il and Milwaukee, WI. He would have liked to get more involved but Ed was troubled with leg problems and was restricted in his movements.

Pat
It is always a sad time when one of these men takes their finale Patrol. The men of the Bases and the Tenders do not get enough recognition in my book, but they played a large part in the funtions and survival of the PT BOAT CREWS. I am sure he is in a better place sitting at the right hand of our Lord and once again visiting with those he served with. My condolances to his Family......

I have been trying to send a message to PT Boasts in Memphis, TN about the passing away of Ed Harwart of Elmhurst, IL.
My message has been returned to me because of improper address.
Can anyone tell me how to contact Alyce Mary in Memphis, TN by Email or do I have to go by way of telephone or snail mail.
I have noticed that this Email service is not conducive to passing along what it may considered extraneous information.
I am an original menber of Ron 9, PT 154, having shipped out with them in Dec. 1942 and heading for the South Pacific and Tulagi, etc and etc. I ws very familiar with Lt. Cmdr Robert Bolling Kelly, the original Commanding Officer of Ron 9. If there are any other people around that can recall that time, kindly drop me a line.
I also served with Ron 4 in Melville, RI from July 1944 to March 1945 and the USS Jamestown (AGP 3) from Sept 1945 toward the end of the war |
