Hi, new to forum. I recently purchased a PT Boat Steering wheel that had been in a family for over 70 years. That is all the information I have on it. I looked up PT Boats online and the wheel seems almost an exact match. Clear, color pictures seem only available from restored PT Boat websites. Their wheels look very close to the one I have, but have a few minor differences. Where they all standardized? Mine also shows traces of blue/gray paint. Were they ever painted, or just kept bare wood with varnish? Thanks, in advance, for any info any of you may provide! I don't see a way to include any images of it. Is that possible on this site?

Welcome Aboard! As Jeff says, to be sure we need to see photos of the wheel you obtained. Can you pass on the name of the family you purchased it from? For us we might been able to tell what boat it is from. Having a last name,that would narrow down the boat it possibly came from.
Take care,
TED

Thanks, sent photos. I don't know family name of who originally got the wheel. It was supposedly a navy guy sold to a military collector in 1940s. Original collector now deceased. That was story I was told, no info beyond that. This is why I tried to get more info on this website, as I figured experts would know if it was real. Sometimes family stories can change over the years....

Stonewallheir;
Nice antique ships wheel, but unfortunately, it is not from a PT Boat. ELCO PT Boats all had metal ships wheels, Higgins and Huckins PT's both had wooden ships wheels, but not of this design.
Take care,

Here are some photos of Higgins and Huckins (PTs 69 and 97) wheels. Yours looks closest to PT 6's but not quite a match:

The images below are from the Elco and Higgins Parts Catalogs (as can be found on this forum) of the designated steering wheels for each type of boat. Keep in mind at any given point a different wheel could have been used as replacement, repair, or prior to standardization.
