You should be able to find him in the muster reports that are on Ancestry.com and fold3.com, both are pay sites. Easy search on the ship. But the base you'll have to manually dig. You'll have to trace his comings and goings on the muster report/Report of changes.

For the PT Boat, on line, you'll only find which Squadron he was assigned to through the muster reports. To find out which boat, you'll have to have the boat's log book, currently only available at the National Archives in College Park, MD.

Thx, Charlie. My dad was in Squadron 23, but the boat# I found online wasn't a 23 boat. I have a purloined Judy Garland glamor pic. signed, "To men of Squadron 23, best wishes, blah, blah". he snagged from headquarters . I'll post it when I get smarter. LOL!

Was he an officer? or enlisted? Officers aren't (normally) listed on the muster reports.
What's his name?

Edwin Irwin Carson. After the war he ended up Naval Liaison to Congress, & CIA. He hardly ever shared anything about the war.

He was communications officer. I'm not that sharp on Naval ranks - I was Air Force!

He even assisted in an emergency appendectomy on the boat, reading instructions to the corpsman! They drained ether from a torpedo to use in some fashion. The story made headlines, stateside.
