Hello Message Board members,
This coming week and again in September, the PT658, a 78 foot Higgins PT boat, will be available for tours by the general public when it attends the Portland Wooden Boat Show being held at the Riverplace Marina in downtown Portland. The public will be allowed (free of charge) to come on board and view the boat, which is the only authentically restored operating WW2 fully armed US Navy PT Boat in the world. We will arrive there this Friday, 03 August, 2007 at about 11am, under our own power of 3 Packard 5M-2500 V12 marine engines burning 100 octane av-gas. All 3 engines are in operating condition and are able to propel the boat at speeds in excess of 33 knots. The boat will be there Friday through Sunday. After that on September 22 we will be taking the boat to the Red Lion Inn at Jantzen Beach (on the Columbia River at the I-5 bridge) to attend the NW chapter PT Boaters "Bull Session" which is open to all members of PT Boats Inc. There will be a banquet and tours and possibly underway trips associated with the event. John Akin, (WW2 Gunners Mate of RON1, PT24 and PT27) will be hosting the Bull Session. All of you should plan on coming out to Portland to see the PT658 if you can. Hope to see you all there! Jerry
