Saw that the current Sightseer is for sale on some yacht sight? Any ideas? Is the captain looking to retire or just get a new boat?

Yes, he is looking to retire. He has been there working from that same location since he was a Deckhand working for the original Owner Captain Stocker. Captain Schumann has owned the business since 1978 which included owning the previous Sightseer (486) and the current aluminum boat that he traded the 486 for with Captain Ron Sinn back in 2001.

Wow! Anybody willing to take over that you know about? Or will this be the end to the Big Blue? A Wildwood staple for me since I was 3....40 plus years!!! Sad if it is.

Nobody has bitten yet for sure! He has had offers for the boat from operators in New York, but nothing definite. There is the strong possibility that once the current vessel is sold, the Big Blue Sightseer (operation as we know it) will be history.

Would like to see how you are making out with the model. I created one with the seahorses and King Neptune back in the early 70s and right now it is apart being restored. The last time I let anyone see it was at my grandfathers funeral ( Capt Otto Stocker). I will post a photo later of the model. I set it up with 2 shafts and put in a RC unit and it’s all out of wood. The figures are of clay and were baked in a kin. Capt Tom Stocker

Tom, I have not made any progress yet. There has been quite a bit of medical stuff that happened around here that has delayed any work. We also have a 1956 Chris Craft we bought last year and have been working on it in between medical issues (more of a get away from it all). BTW, we keep the boat in Cape May and pop into Otten's Harbor every trip into Wildwood. Boy has that all changed!
I enjoyed talking with your grandfather during my time working on the boat from 1979 to 1984. He would pop down often. In August of '81, after we had the engine room fire, he was right there helping out getting the boat back in service. I learned as much from him as I could. It was great just hearing the stories about Chuck and Paul Hoffman and hearing Margaret tell the "other side" of the stories.
I would love to see your model. I helped Chuck rebuild the original seahorse in 1982. I have also seen that Revell is putting out the newer Elco model. I will get that model also and create a PT-486 so that I can have both boats side by side in a display.
For now, I will not be working on the models for a bit until our health issues settle a little more (hard to concentrate on model building with these issues).

BTW, I should be able to scale up the upper superstructure and canopy pretty easy from a picture. It is always great to have a known height in a picture to create a scale for items to be generated.
Well, the best item to scale in the picture is me standing at the gate! (Pretty sure I know my height.) Also, the railings were exactly 36" from the deck to the top because that was the USCG allowed height at the time. Today, those same railings would have to be 42".
