This kit is listed in the latest Italeri ecatalog. The artwork shows a pre-450 boat; the associated drawings show what appears to be a very slightly modified copy of my PT 209 drawings.
Italeri has a good reputation for scale fidelity, so I'm glad they are the first of offer this kit. Hopefully, they'll do a tubed boat later on.

While any company's accurate PT boat models are certainly welcomed, one wonders if any company will ever hear our pleas for a 77' ELco, preferably in 1/35th or larger.

Thanks Al! This is indeed great news! Thanks for letting us know. After all the Higgins were the superior PT Boat!

I did a search, but this is all I could come up with:
The photo is linked from Scalemates.com website
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/1124238-italeri-5622-higgins-78-torpedo-boat
I’m really happy to see this finally come about. It was back in December 2012 when I first assembled a complete package of drawings, DVD Microfilm, photos, posters and many other reference items to prod them in creating either a Higgins 78’ or Elco 77’. As a side-note, the package was returned in late January 2013, literally in dozens of piece all crammed in to a cardboard box with a note as “Undeliverable”. Finally by early February 2013 I had reassembled the material and resent it out again this time as guaranteed “Priority Next Day Delivery”. This time it got to Italy 18 days later, not overnight. An attempt to get a refund for non-overnight delivery failed, of course.
A few weeks later I received an email thanking me for the data and that they would take it all under consideration - and finally, five years later, it seems to have come to a conclusion in the form of a Higgins model - I sure hope all the data sent was at least a small contributing factor in its production and they used it at the least as an aide.
Now lets hope the Elco 77 is next!!!!!

While we are asking Pat, PLEASE do a 37mm for us in 1/35 so several of us can complete our boats. They just won't be finished without your beautiful work.
