Here my two cents:
first we have the Panama picture-

where we can see a full 300 series foredeck outfit; 20mm gun pad, two ammo boxes(charthouse front and centerline),life line around gun pad, deck anchor stowage-albeit further to port than indicated in the drawings- and a field mod bow gun mount(the flag mount is way too sturdy to hold just the jack flag)

Then we have the Cape Gloucester picture-

The "centerline" ammo box is removed,as are the balsa raft supports; anchor still on deck, twin .50s at bow apparently in a Mk 17 mount with standard turret 250 rd ammo boxes.

Finally we have the Lt Bill Diver's crew photo-

And here my thesis; the charthouse front ammo box was retained when the quadmount was installed and the bow .50s moved in front of the fwd stbd torpedo when the M4 gun was intalled . This is the object Ted is talking about in his post; this was alredy discussed earlier on the forum and there was some consensus on this issue.

Here hard evidence in support of the ammo box statement, almost irrefutable.

Do I detect a U.S. National Insignia 'Star & Bar' painted on the day room roof?
Perhaps for aerial recognition since the Allies ruled the skies (for the most part) at this point in the war?

Cheers!

Bob, PT195 had a star and bars both on crew day cabin and charthouse roofs when the Maxson was carried.
