All;
There is a PT 108 RON 5/RON 10 photo album for sale on EBAY, April 22, 1944-May 27, 1945 Officers are Robert White, Howard E. Mohr, Samuel A. Pond, and Carey. There is a guy in the crew named "Blackie", I have a photo of him and his real name somewhere, I think this was his photo album.Maybe Earl remembers him. Crazy money being asked here.

Thanks Ted, I enjoyed the photos and the glimpse of life on a PT they gave. I see they had a monkey named Fleas.

Another equally pricey album popped up in the ads, an Elco presentation album. It has a nice aerial view of the Elco plant in 1940 and the PTC Y-gun / depth charge rack setup along with this note from the seller:

This could have been the actual Elco Plant's own Album, a presentation album, or the photographer's personal album. In the years I have had this album I've attempted to track down its origin/heritage-even been in contact with the Misty Harbor Museum where all of Elco's records were donated/are stored but to no avail.

It's here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/183-WWII-Historical-ELCO-Presentation-Photo-Album/222572696750?_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D44840%26meid%3D58c66b2b2a164e72b9847f5a35b27753%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D152621765023

I couldn't find anything for Misty Harbor Museum. Is anyone familiar with it?

Jeff;
That is sure a nice album, I wonder if Frank has seen one like it. again Crazy price. The "M. Rosenfeld" on the cover jacket, is Morris "Rosey" Rosenfeld, who was a renowned, Marine photographer, and at one time Chief Marine photographer in New York City. Just google his name and you will see PT 20, PT 39, Andy's Sea Sled, yachts, sailboats, etc. His collection of photographs is at Mystic Seaport also. He took many of the photos of PT Boats. Go to Gene's website, Go to "Mystery PT's" and scroll down, That is Rosey Rosenfeld kneeling on the deck of a RON 2 PT photographing PT 39(PT "8") and the rest in New York Harbor, November 1941. He also took the pre war RON 2 photos in Miami, the plywood derby photos, the RON 10 adapter photos, Judging from what I have found, Rosey Rosenfeld was the main contracted photographer for ELCO.
So the seller implying that Mystic didn't know about the album is pure bunk. I am sure they would try to buy it from him, since they have almost 1 million of Rosenfelds images.
Ref Link: https://www.mysticseaport.org/rosenfeld/2017/03/the-plywood-derby/

The seller is talking about Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. They had the ELCO construction records for the 70', 77' and the first few 80' PT's. As per Alyce's suggestion, I called Mystic Seaport up, when I first was asked by the then owner(Bob Fears) of Ex-PT 48(Then named the Onancock Princess), to trace the history of the boat.He only had a date, which was the wrong month(he was told December, this was wrong), 15th day, 1941, and a certificate signed by Glenville S, Tremaine, Designer and Works Manager of ELCO. According to the records, the only boat built/placed in service, on the 15th of any month in 1941, was PT 48. September 15, 1941.In fact, there was something going on at ELCO, a work slow down or realignment for increased production, of the new model, because PT 49(lend lease MTB 307) wasn't completed until January 20, 1942, and PT 68 was placed in service on January 13, 1942, then they were released in hap hazard order as follows: 67, 49, 50, 66, 65, 64, 63, 51, 52, 62, 61, 53, 54, 60, 55, 56, 59, 57, 58.

Here is more about how Glenville S. Tremaine was actually responsible for saving the early PT Documents and more: https://www.elcomotoryachts.com/history-of-elco.shtml

There is also a Glenville S. Tremaine collection at the Mariners Museum here in Newport News, Virginia, which I will take a look at soon, to see if its all ELCO civilian craft related or it has some PT related material.
Take care,
TED

Back 19 years ago or so I was invited to the home of Elco's Managing Constructor Irwin Chase. The had brought out a Mahogany trunk for me to look at. Inside were several of the type of albums you have posted here. Photos were mostly done by Mr. Rosenthal. It was a dream to go through these 700 or 800 8 x 10 Elco photos. At the time the family wasn't going to part with them. All were embossed like the one you are showing on EBAY.

I have contacted the seller to pass along some information. The price is basically crazy and I think if I had the money I would not pay this amount. Elco did a wonderful job of documenting their PT BOAT program over the years. I have roughly 150 Elco 8 x10 photos in my Exhibit, donated by the families of Irwin Chase, Henry Sutphen, Glenville Tremaine, and most recently F. Walter Rowe. Some have the stamp of Rosenthal and others do not. I do not think Elco used just one photographer in their quest to document their boats. In any event I am very aware of the album for sale and have seen them, not sure what others photos he has in there, I have asked to look.......

Ted,

I seem to remember Earl telling me that 'Blackie' is Phil Constantino, or
something like that. Also, I think you can access the old 108 'Little Duck' website on the fabulous Way Back Machine. Go look in the PT BOATS LINK.

Yep, I just looked and it's still there. His name is Phil " Blackie' Cossentino

I think Geary passed away. He was very sick when I was conversing with him over the years. He stopped E Mailing me and we lost touch. He did send me a CD all about PT-108 and her history.

Very sad to hear about Geary.

Well, somebody had to have it. Sold for $3500.

Dave

PS. It was not me as evidenced by the fact that my wife hasn't killed me.

My good friend John Molnar bought the Elco Album. He got it in the mail yesterday and loves it. I read him the riot act for spending $3500 on 48 8 x 10 photographs which averages out to be $73.00 per photo. I have roughly 150 Elco photos, heck maybe I should sell them to him that's $10,950.00. Imagine how many PT BOATS I could have Stan build for me.
