True enough. The only way we'll see those photos on this site is if whomever posted them pays the $400 ransom. Fortunately I didn't use them to store my photos. I think I'll just let what I put on that site sit there for now and see what happens with Photobucket. Everyone who used them to post pictures is pretty pissed and they're jumping off that ship fast. As if what they've done with adds wasn't enough to make one leave.

Another site which seems to be similar to imgur is Fotki. Users seem to like it. It has very limited free hosting. From what I've seen so far Flikr and imgur. seem the be the more popular choices. If you're concerned about protecting your images or what you post Flikr is the better of the two. Both are free of bots from what I've seen.

I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable fee for image hosting. But $400 a year is robbery.

I, too, have found Photobucket more and more frustrating and difficult to use. So, I use Google Photos for all my pics and albums. Free, user-friendly, and very cool. The image below is from my PT 187 album on Google Photos, and I pasted it here by this method:

1. Go to the album, click on the photo thumbnail to expand it. 2. Right click "copy image address".
3. Open your message here, type [ image ] then paste your image address here (it'll be long..... then type [ / image] Please note that there should be no spaces between commands as I have here, necessary for it to show up on this message...)
4. Done!

Here's another test image from my Google Photos PT 187 album using the same method. Seems easy and foolproof.



P.S. $399.00 PER YEAR FOR PHOTOBUCKET?? That's a lot of beer!

Thanks for the tips on using Google Photos. I'm wondering how it will work on other forums?

On another note your boat is looking awesome! You've captured a lot of great detail in this build and I have to believe Al is very pleased with what you've done with the Bluejacket kit. Nice work and looking forward to seeing her completed.

That is one awesome looking RON 12, RON 6, RON 9, model!!! (What timeframe are you depicting?) Especially since its 1/48 scale!
I don't know about the white ammo trays, but do I see an open engineroom hatch? Hmmm, did you do the engineroom too?

Thanks for the kind words, Dave; much appreciated. Al did a great job with this kit and thus far I've had a year-and-a-half of fun with it. About six months to go yet.

Ted....you have very sharp eyes! The model is shown as a work in progress and the .50 caliber ammo trays are going to be painted Haze Gray 5-H, a color close to Jeff Davidson's fantastic CAD renderings.

The engine room hatch is the second type and was scratch-built out of .020" sheet styrene. Photos of PT 187 show this type and with the door mostly open as the boat is flying along.

Thanks! From your photo, I can see the type and location of the ladder. On my PT 599 and PT 600 RON 40, I have this hatch open and I rebuilt mine as yours is. In my diorama, they are returning to Miami Shakedown in the early morning, after a night out on a training exercise.On my PT 600, I want to have an ELCO/Packard engine Rep/tech coming out of this hatch. I am building a full engineroom, and the boats will have lighting.
This diorama represents a op test for PT 600, as RON 40 Det Charlie went to Cienfuegos, Cuba prior to heading to Panama, and hit a submerged object at high speed, knocking a hole in the hull and damaging the centerline shaft, screw and rudder. They got it repaired at Gitmo.. Warren Aldrich mentioned he remembered this incident and that similar damage but they were hit by a runaway sailboat that lost its mooring. The bow of the sailboat came through the hull at the foward head, while a crewman was on the throne! This occurred at an earlier date to his PT 598 "Miss Mickey Finn"

Very nice Bob! She's really coming along. I'm no expert at camo but wouldn't the .50 cradles and carriages be painted to match it?

Ted, was the 600 in the middle of the ocean when it hit the submerged object as opposed to a reef near a key? It must have been a real shock to the crew either way.

Jeff, thanks for the nice words. The ammo trays have been painted gray, but the .50 caliber machine guns and their cradles (plus other details and exotica evident in your amazing CAD drawings) haven't been installed yet.

Hallo Bob what you showed is really nice work,the detail is impressive considering it's in 1/48th.
Having researched the subject quite a lot I noticed a couple of odd things about the radar mast you fitted: the masts with round cross section top had the domes fitted directly to the mast top, without cilindrical connecting piece.
PT187 seems to have had the square cross section top mast installed,like PT192,see http://www.pt103.com/images/ptpics/pt192/PT192_Galloping_Guillotine2.jpg
You also missed the two cables running along the support arm,I suppose to prevent the mast from falling into the bridge during rising, See http://www.pt103.com/images/ptpics/pt192/Ken_Christianson_PT192_Duty_Watch.jpg
Please take this as constructive criticism, it isn't meant to put down your excellent work in any way,
P,S. I think the interior of the engine hatch air scoop should be black,I remember seeing a note about this on the ELCO drawings..
