Below is one sample shot of thirteen pages Frank Andruss scanned from his RTU Manual concerning painting and prep for PT Boats at the MTBSTC.
Further down are links for website displaying all thirteen images and also a downloadable "PDF" file I created that can be saved and viewed on your computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader. To view the PDF file just click the link, to download right-click your mouse on the link and choose "save target as" to your desktop.

Great information! I'll tuck this away for the 596 build.
Thank you!

Thanks, Frank and Dick.
I love the bottom of page 54...
"There are three shades of Navy Spec. Green paints used in painting the Elco boats;
One is Light -- Ocean Green -- Navy Spec. #50G
Two -- Medium -- Navy Green -- Navy Spec. #5NG
Three -- Dark -- Navy Green -- Navy Spec. #20G."
That about says it all (at least in regards to "from the factory" colors, in '44).

Thanks, Dick, for posting the painting section. As a primary source document, it provides some solid evidence about contemporary painting practice. Unfortunately, it also contains some errors and omissions that could lead less experienced readers to conclusions that are not quite correct. I'll mention these later, as it's about 2330 and I'm going to bed...yawn

This is from my inserts on one of my original RTU Manuals from the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons Training Center. Check it out, it will tell you the color paint and number used on the boats. I know we are always talking colors here on the board, so enjoy the reading.

Man, that was a long sleep (5+ years). There is a typo. 20G is Deck Green, not Navy Green.
