Greetings! MY father told me he was skipper of PT 306 (?) during WWII; however, I have seen a compilation of crew names and he was not amongst them. He served in the Med on an 80 foot boat, I believe. His name was Richard B. Gilpin. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Welcome aboard!! Yes Your Dad, Dick Gilpin was Skipper of PT 306 RON 22:
This photo was titled "Dick Gilpin-Artist" so I guess he designed it and painted it with crew.
Here are some more PT 306 photos:
Hope this helps, and its nice to help, especially on Memorial Day
Weekend.
Take care,

Welcome Rick! I got the photo labeled "Dick Gilpin Artist" from the old Defenders of America website that had crew photos from the crew of PT309.
You should consider going to visit the several Higgins 78 foot PT boats that are still on display and restored. PT309 in Fredericksberg TX, PT305 in New orleans, PT658 in Portland OR and PT796 in Fall River MA. They are are Higgins Boats just like your Dads old Boat. In the case of the 305 and the 658 they are both running and floating in the water being operational.
