Al;
Nice! Do you know what scale it is? FDR had quite a collection of builders models.
Take care,

Interesting that the camouflage runs over the deck to include the torpedo tubes. This appears to be a very nice job of airbrushing.

Cheers!

Bob;
That is the way Higgins PT's camo was, on deck, at least with the Pacific camo schemes.This is Measure 31/5P
Take care,

Thanks Ted, much obliged regarding the Higgins boat camouflage. I was surprised since I'm building BlueJacket's 1/48 80' ELCO in the Measure 31/5P scheme also, but the camo didn't run across the deck, just along the vertical surfaces according to Sensei Al Ross. He indicates the deck was generally painted Deck Green 20-G, along with most other horizontal surfaces as seen from the air.

Cheers!

Bob,
I think originally with measure 5P the deck was supposed to be still in camo, just the Navy green 5-NG changed to Deck green 20-G on the deck areas, at least according to the measure 31 painting instruction chart. It is close but a little more blue. Whether it was like that in practice after a few repaints who knows?
You can see it in the photo of PT 195 in Panama here:

Thanks Stu, much obliged. But now I'm more confused than ever.....fairly normal for me......

The "US Navy Measure 31/5P Color Profile and Paint Guide" illustrates the camouflage running over the deck. However, its text says "Decks & other horizontal surfaces - Deck Green 20-G".

In the BJ instruction book Sensei Ross states "The patterns of the various green measures were applied to all vertical surfaces, while decks and all other horizontal surfaces, including the tops of the chart house and day cabin, were generally painted Deck Green (20-G)."

So, what to do? What to do?

Cheers!

Bob,
I agree the decks were often deck green with the camo on the vertical surfaces only, especially with the later interpretations of 5P and certainly with 12L
It may be that only the original factory applied 5P camo was on the decks.

You can see it here also.
