Guys I have requested and gotten my Grandpa's Navy records. I knew he had served as a GM2 and GM1 on PT boats from June 1942 until Mar 1945
he served at:
(1943) Motor torpedo boat base#3 (naval advance base Buttin)?
(1943) naval advanced base Navy 140
(20 oct 1943) usnb, espiritu santo, new hebrides (mtbb #2)
I would like to know if there is any way to figure out how what PT boats he served on? He would have been older in his 40's as he had served for a few years from 1922 until 26. anyhow if you all have any leads that could help me track down his boats I would love the help.
His name was George William Stiffler sr. From Bradner Ohio
Respectfully\

One of the more difficult questions to answer. Since he was assigned to the base, he wouldn't have been assigned to a boat. He was there to maintain the boats. But, saying that, that doesn't mean he didn't go out on a patrol on a boat, filling in for a crewmember on any number of boats in the squadron(s) who were at the base. In order to find that out, you'd have to identify the boats that were there, then pull all of the logs at the National Archive for those boats and go thru each log to see if he was logged in as riding the boat.
I've tracked his path from MTB Base 3 to MTB Base 2 (Base 3 changed designations to Base 2 in June 43) and then Base 3 shut down in Oct 43 and everyone moved to Advanced Base Navy 140. He is at 140 through March 44 which is the last muster roll I can find so far.
Any idea where he went afterwards?
