Edward W. Ellwanger Edward W. Ellwanger, WW II veteran, passed away July 4, 2007 of cancer. Proud veteran and local leader of the VFW, American Legion and DAV posts. Diligent supporter of VFW & AL poppy and DAV forget-me-not sales. Born in Sacramento June 30, 1925, attended Calistoga High School, and enlisted in the US Navy. Service in the Pacific included Carpenter’s Mate on PT Boat Tender USS Jamestown. Credited the two atomic bombs with saving him and many of his buddies. In advance of an inspection, reportedly denied young PT boat skipper J. F. Kennedy access to the tender’s woodshop. Worked as a plumbing contractor, and Mendocino, and then, Sonoma County Building Inspector.

Edward W. Ellwanger Best when serving the “little guy,” Ed fought for benefits for ex-servicemen, for better home construction in Windsor, and for an adequate Windsor Building Inspection Department. Always quick of wit, Ed’s smile and humor will be missed.
