I just received a copy of my late uncle's discharge as I am his only surviving nephew. I'd like some help figuring this out. I was to understand he was on a PT boat in WWII. I see under remarks 'PHILLIPPINE LIBERATION" "AMERICAN AREA" and "ASIATIC PACIFIC". I assume these would indicate theaters in which he served. Under 24 (SERVICE) reads "USNTS GREAT LAKES, ILL" then "COM SER 7TH FLEET NAVY 134". I think the first is indicative of his boot camp. I am wondering if the second listing would be for PT-134. If anyone can help, I will be happy to provide further information. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Larry;

COM SER 7TH FLEET NAVY 134 stands for Commander, Service Force, 7th Fleet, In May 1944, NAVY 134 (FPO #) was Brisbane Australia, US Naval Base Headquarters.

Hope this helps.
Take care,
TED

Thanks Ted, this tells me a good bit. I think my dad may have had it wrong and this Uncle was actually a SeaBee and part of CBMU 544 based on other things I see on this form. I appreciate you helping me decipher this.

Larry, if you give me his name, I can look up in the muster reports to see if I can find him.

As far as I can tell, "PHILIPPINE LIBERATION" "AMERICAN AREA" and "ASIATIC PACIFIC" refer to awards he received. These are what we used to call "Being There" awards and indicate service in those area. These would be distinct from any medals for performance.
