I received an email from Rob Iannucci saying that in the near future they would like to select a boat restore. My money is definitely in restore 486 as it is the best elco at fleet obsolete.

He wrote"Dear Fellow PT Boat Enthusiasts,

We recently came across an article in Sea Classic Magazine on PT Boats and the restoration of PT 658 that you may find interesting. See attached.

Also, attached is a recent article on PT 48 featured in Bone Yard Boats.

As most of you know, we have 4 genuine WWII PT Boats; all are dry-docked in Kingston, NY. All of them have US Coast Guard Certifications. We are now mobilizing to begin restoration of one boat. We are open to any and all suggestions.

Going forward we will be working with the Hudson River Maritime Museum and their new Wooden Boat School, all part of the Hudson Riverport Program.
In the near future, once a particular Vessel has been selected for the next restoration, we will be assembling a volunteer work force. Stay tuned."

Pretty neat stuff for sure, frank I'm guessing you knew about this?

Hello again Nic!
Did you ever go visit the PT309 in Fredericksburg? I was wondering what you found out about those changes to the chart house that you asked about earlier. Also thanks for the mention of the Article about PT658 in the August Issue of Wooden Boat magazine! I bet Frank has the scoop on what is happening in Kingston with Mr Ianuccis plans to restore a boat.

Like we have discussed loosely here before, whatever boat he decides to restore should be done as part of a non profit group that owns the boat free and clear and not for the enrichment of a private individual. It is difficult to obtain donated funds for restoration or obtain a group of dedicated volunteer workers if the project is privately owned. Of course a private owner may wish to supply all the needed funds themselves and pay employees to do the restoration, and that would work as well. However, expecting a group of volunteers to do all the work and come up with donations without clear non profit status is a recipe for disaster. I don't mean to throw a wet blanket on this, I just want you to know that before getting overwhelmed. Just my 2c! (and I am speaking from having been there in a similar situation!) Take care.
Jerry

Thanks for the info Jerry, also I unfortunately couldn't see pt-309, but I will have to make an attempt next year, I have had a busy summer.
I think it's interesting that the pt restoration is being considered now, for a while it seemed very unsure .

Absolutely right on, Jerr! There is a very good reason the boats are nicknamed "Fleet Obsolete"...

I did know about this but it is just talk, no one has stepped forward. Until Mr. Iannuci releases the boat ( 486) to a 501-C3, they will just stay where they are.

That is very true frank, though just the thought of a possible restoration is enough to instill hope into any pt boater.

If the boats were in any other hands I would say there is a huge chance. Trust me the first thing Ianucci is going to ask anyone is what is your financial status. All he is doing is feeling you out to see how much dough you have so he can sell any of the boats for huge money, and trust me it will be way too much. I have said it from the very beginning, those boats will never be restored with him being the owner of them, and no one in their right mind is going to pay a large sum for boats in poor shape.

There was an opening line of a song: DON'T LET THE STARS GET IN YOUR EYES.....

Good advice
