Luis, aka holden8702 at Shapeways, has been mentioned here before. I'm most excited about his figures. Creating figures in 3D is an entirely different discipline than drawing mechanical parts- it uses different software and skill sets completely. But once the figure is drawn, it can be scaled up and down and 3D printed like any other widget.

Luis's store at Shapeways:
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/panzervstanks

He has entire crews for various scale PT boats, and just ask, he can modify them, give the sailors Dixie cups or helmets, whatever.

I ordered a helmsman/skipper in 1:16... less than $20 in the lowest cost plastic at Shapeways. Here he is in a 1:16 Elco 77 cockpit.

You can put together an entire crew!

That's pretty neat. I can't wait to see the finished, painted figure.

I've sent Luis emails requesting he consider making 1/72nd scale 80' Elco charthouse running lights and air scoops, as well as making fatigue cap-wearing helmsman officer figures.

With the 3D printing technology, you can have just about any figure you'd want, I guess. But why do they look so fuzzy?

Hi.

Please tell me what are you meaning with "fuzzy".

These figures are about 110 milimeters, and printed directly in color.

Try to print a .jpg pic of a 110 mm. tall sailor with your 2D color printer. Then this is the same but 3d.

Thanks and best regards.

Luis

I guess it's just the way the material is but looking at this picture, it 's not a smooth surface.
