It is with great sadness and a heavy heart ... I have heard of the passing of Pat Rogers RM1c. He was 93. He was the last surviving crew member of my father's PT-154. Pat was in the original crew at the New York Navy Yard - commissioned in November 1942.
He earned a Silver Star as an enlisted sailor - a very rare event. Pat with his perfect memory for things that happened 70+ years ago ... helped me understand what my father's time on PT-154 was like and through me helped my father come to terms with the dreadful night of 13-14 Nov 1943.
He remembered life aboard his beloved PT boat as if it were yesterday. If it were not for Pat Rogers ... I would never have been born - he saved his boat that November night.
Pat Rogers -- the guy in the middle of the middle row - with a big smile.

Nat;
My condolences to you and his family. Pat was what every Navy man expects of a shipmate. When the S--- hits the fan, He has your back, he steps forward and takes charge, and gets you out of harms way. Pat did this, as you said...that's why you are here today. A few years ago, Pat wondered where his PT 154 shipmate QM1/C Arthur J. Schwedt USNR was buried. Well I contacted Pat and informed him, Art is buried in the same cemetery as my brother, Pinelawn National Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island, NY(SECTION H SITE 7665 ).
It is a good feeling to know the Plankowner crew of PT 154 RON 9 is together once again.
Thank you RM2/C Patrick M. Rogers Sr. USNR for doing your job and being an inspiration to all future generations of DBG's.
Take care,
TED
P.S. Pat also mentioned he was also the RM on PT 486 RON 4 when he returned to Melville. Maybe one day soon, this boat can be restored, for him and all the others.
