I wonder with that cumbersome shield how much was lost in speed. Do we know the weight of that rig? It had to mess up the Crews Quarters as I am sure they had to reinforce the deck for the weight of the 40MM and the shield. It sure looks interesting. You are doing a bang up job on the project. This Italeri Kit is perfect for doing other Elco Boats. Great Kit..........

Hello Frank
I've no actual info on the shield only a couple of pictures that I've done the scratchbuilding from. I should think it weighed a hefty amount.
I know that PT174 was fitted with it when she was in the States & that it was still there when they arrived in the pacific but for how long I've no idea. I'm waiting for some paint masks to arrive before I continue with the painting & final build. Shouldn't be to long the Guy who makes them posted them yesterday.

Hi every one
Have been very busy with the build whilst waiting for the masks to arrive.
Have built the base for the diorama & started construction on the ramp & jetty area.
Building the ramp out of a mixture of different woods.
Am looking for figures to convert into naval personnel have found a few.
Have sprayed the hull of the boat in a reddish brown colour going to repaint it just dont like the colour now it's dry. wanted it to look old & a well used colour.
Have also sprayed most of the superstructure in matt white. Masks arrived a week ago have been working out how I want them as to what area's to paint which colour.
Will be adding some more photo's soon.
Silly question is the hull of the boat painted in a gloss paint or left in a matt finnish.

Hi Guy's
Have added 2 more picture links. 1 for the painting of the boat the other for the diorama that I'm building .
Have decided that I'm getting some different red for the hull from white ensign model's. I've order some of there anti fouling red paint.
The ramp in the diorama has been built using an assortment of wood. The base has been covered in household polyfilla. ready to be painted & covered in sand . I've nearly finnished scratchbuilding a torpedo & a trolley for it to go on.
The only painting that I've done so far to the main superstructure is the spraying of the parts in a matt white ready for the stripes.
The links to the sites are. for the Diorama build

and for the painting of the boat.

Hope you enjoy what you see.

Hello
Have just spent 5hrs cutting up & repostioning Gator's set of masks so that they are nearer to what the PT174 looked like. ( The masks are well worth there money). Saved me a lot of time than if I made my own completely. Have added some pictures to the Paint link for the PT174 build. Will be spraying it hopfully later today when it cools down . Too Hot at the moment. So far have only masked off the Hull. Am Imagining / seeing Lines every where. Only joking.
Will keep you posted.

Starting to look pretty awesome for sure. Can't wait to see the finished product. Zebra Boats are not tried by too many.

Hi
Have painted the Hull with a Black/Grey colour as I didn't want the black to be too dark , Once I start to weather the boat.
Am pleased with the results, Have had a little bit of bleading under the masks mainly were it went over edges or drain holes. Will touch them up with a little of the white. The exhausts will need a bit more than the sides as there are so many little areas that the masks dont lie very flat.
Cut the masks about a lot from what I bought. Used about 3/4 of them so didn't waste much. Next job top side to do.
Put 4 more pic's on today.
Hope you like.
Thanks for all the praise so far makes the build more enjoyable when people like what you've done.
