does anyone know if any of the lens lease Higgins sent to Russia survive in some capacity to this day. I did read that due to the Cold War, pt boats inc couldn't keep up with their whereabouts.
So far two examples are in America,( due to destruction of 659 and 660) both of which were planned to go to Russia, but as we know didn't, but are the same class of Higgins.
PT-657, as malihini in San Diego, PT-658 restored in Oregon, PT-659 destroyed, parts used in 305 restoration, and PT-660 sunk by a bull pup missile.

Hi Nic,
I am fairly certain that boats PT625-PT656 were all shipped to the USSR in late 1944 to mid 1945. I have never heard of any being returned. There were also earlier boats shipped over there previously, including some Elco boats. I remember reading how somebody here on this board wrote an account of their witnessing the return of a few (2-3?) Elco boats to US Forces in Germany during the Cold War era. (1960's?) I think they even had a photo. I have never heard of any of these boats making it back to the US.

I agree I haven't heard of any being returned from Russia, but it would be interesting to find out if any of these survived, but due to the amount of Higgins and Elcos sent to far areas of the world, it is safe to say that at least a good handful survive, maybe even some American built vospers.

Nothing has been posted on Higgins returns but the following discuss Elco and a Vosper returns. That is, unless in Als or Teds recent research has come up with anything new.

Teds post on Elcos and a vesper being returned from Russia:

Al Ross post similar and referred to to in Teds post:

Nic;
As for Higgins PT's the only ones that might be around are the ones that went to Yugoslavia some from RON 15(201, 203, 204,207-209 211,213 217), which were designated MT 1- MT 8. All RON 15 originals were reported scrapped by 1966. The Yugoslavians copied the design and called it the Type 108 and built around 75-96 boats built in the shipyards on the island of Korčula . Two of these copies were sold to Cambodia in 1965 and renamed VR-1 and VR-2 they were reportedly sunk by Khmer Rouge forces in 1975. 3 more were reportedly sold to Cyprus around 1971-72. One showed up in a Malta boatyard between 1990-99.

Take care,
