Does Jeff have any thought to producing these in 1/48 scale?

Cheers!

Mr Davidson should also give a thought about producing a set of deck hatches and frames as 3DP parts, would surely be appreciated on both sides of the Atlantic...

Man, I wish we could get some running lights and air scoops in 1/72nd scale to dress up the sides of the Revell 80' Elco kit's charthouse.

The White Ensign photo etched brass parts are just too flat...

Just ordered a binnacle, throttle, helm, cleats, and running lights in 1/20th for the Elco model I am now working on at the presence. Shapeways has been a god send for quality detailed parts and weapons specifically for PT's in various scales, from various designers.

SW sent me a promotion notice. You can save $10 (once) until April 15th 2016 by first registering at Shapeways, choose to "follow" my store, then use the code "mgpp4" at checkout.

This may be a unique code for me, if you are buying another's parts like Pat's ask them. I've been unable to find out much about this promotion... just make sure you follow the designer first.

I hear you guys, and I'd bet the smaller scales would sell well but it's so hard meeting SW's min thickness requirements without getting grossly out of scale.

Hi Jeff,

I wonder if perhaps some of the larger PT boat items might not be so grossly out of scale. One of Shapeways' designers is HOLDEN8702 who produces quite a range of nautical (and other) hardware in various scales.

My interest is 1/48, and he offers quite a selection in this scale, including a PT boat mast with the SO radar:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/M7S7KVSS4/1-48-radar-mast-for-pt-boat?li=shop-results&optionId=57708392

He has just offered 80' ELCO mufflers in his lineup:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/N87PGB4N6/1-48-pt-boat-mufflers-set?li=shop-results&optionId=59543088

These - and many other - items are also offered in many of the popular models scales by him, and his range is extensive.

I can see that English is not his first language, so I know I'm ordering from overseas somewhere, possibly France or Belgium. Having said that, I'd much prefer to order from our own local Jeff Davidson.

Cheers!

Parts of his mufflers look great. Others are bit odd to me. I wish he might have left off the lower mounting brackets as it is too thick for scale. Leave that up to the model builder to fabricate out of sheet copper or brass. The upper exhaust pipe and flapper also seem odd but hard to tell though with the posted drawings.

I would have recommended that the exhaust mufflers be 3D'ed in a few separate sections allowing for the various variations. The kit could include the major variations and allow the kit builder to use what is most suitable for their model. There are subtle differences in the upper exhaust pipes, collars, piping and linkages depending on which PT you are modeling. This is where the Dick Washichek blueprints become essential!

P.S. The (original) muffler bodies themselves were made of copper if I recall correctly.

Halol guys I am in the process of building the mufflers right now,and I spent some time figuring out how they were made.. From what can be seen on the digital prewiev it seems that the mufflers have features of different production runs all on the same item the rearmost flange/collar also looks odd.
Unfortunately the ELCO blueprints are a little foggy abuot the mufflers.
Anyway, hat off for offering such items as 3DPparts!!

Cool Bob, I'm happy to see someone is doing the smaller scales. And thank you for the faith in my work!

I'm looking forward to seeing those mufflers Daniele. You're right about the muffler changes, one other noticable difference is the reinforcing bands. Some go all the way around like on the 109 and some are short sections like HOLDEN8702's are. I have a photo somewhere showing both types on 1 boat, a guess would be one or some were replaced.

Yes Bridge, there's some off parts there. One noticable area is the flappers cocked at an angle, not sure why he did that. And I'd be partial to making them closed so that the required print thickness wouldn't show. Even better would be some of your PE for them, the brackets, and actuating levers. :D
