I'm sure this forum is dead as it hasn't been updated for a few years but the man who created that plaque was my cousin Mr.Peter Intrieri of Chicago, IL. He was a cartoonist for the Chicago tribune post war but also a cartoonist over seas in the Solomon Island. I had papers with picture of him and the squadron in Tulagi and a couple cartoon comic strips about the squadron and daily life in the Solomon's. I believe the plaque was a piece of wood from Kennedy's boat from what I heard. I am wondering what boat he was on as I don't have that information.
Best regards, Michael Intrieri

SHHH we're taking a dirt nap here!
Interesting story about the plaque. JFK was on PT 109 when it was rammed and sunk by a Japanese ship. I suppose a piece of wood could have been found from the wreckage... from whom did you hear that story?
Do you still have the photo and cartoons? I'm sure many here would like to see them.

Thanks Pat - I found your inquiry very interesting as I built a model of the PT-61 (1/20 scale, RC operation) as a gunboat. I'm particularly interested in the squadron emblem.
Just for fun (or to make it interesting) I picked a date (January 10, 1944) out for the deck diorama/webpage and listed the crew (from Ted). Your dad's name is in the list. I did this last year.
