I was saddened to learn of the passing of Shep Paine in the posting by Louis Rockwell on Sept 28th. I was active in both IPMS and MMSI in the '70's and '80's and got to see much of Shep's work. He was a true craftsman and set the bar extremely high.
Time and again, I'd spend a year on a ship or aircraft model and then see Shep's latest project. It made you want to go home and throw yourself on your x-acto knife.
You can Google his name and read the great obituary that appeared in Fine Scale Modeler.

Hi, Ross-
Thanks for the post- I too was saddened to learn of his passing. Sheperd Paine was a master of his craft, an icon and a friend to modelers and hobbyists just about everywhere. As a teenager, I buillt lots of the Monogram models that had his guides on building better models, dioramas, and detailing figures. Thanks also for the info on the Fine Scale Modeler obit. much appreciated!

Sad to hear.
I, too, grew up on those Monogram kits. His work introduced me to the concept of "diorama" being something beyond a model railroad layout.
