All;
Does anyone have original documentation or accounts of the training Syllabus of Miami Shakedown? I am looking for the 4 week training schedule 1944-1945. For example: 5 inch rocket training on open sea weapons range, off Miami?
Take care,
TED

I only have the syllabus training from Lt. Michaud that outlines the training in Miami from 1943, I will look through his papers, but it looks like the original shakedown program was around 14 days.

Hi Ted,
While not answering your question completely, the section of this website called "Free PT Documents" contains a book called "An Administrative History of PT's in WW2" which has an entire section dedicated to the PT Shakedown Detail, including a Syllabus. It lists each days training scheduled for the 2 week (original length) class, but it may answer some of your questions. Here is the Intro Paragraph on Page 122. Hope this helps. Jerry
SHAKEDOWN SYLLABUS
Commander McDANIEL organized and presented for COTCLant’s approval
a fourteen day shakedown syllabus that included all phases of operating
and testing. The accepted program was installed in both Miami and Melville
shakedown details, and became the bible for all future shakedowns.
At the completion of three months operations under this program, the CO
realized that two weeks was not sufficient time to effectively shakedown the
boats. The 7th of August 1943, COTCLant informed CINCLant that he had
lengthened the PT Shakedown period to three weeks. The same syllabus was
adhered to, and the additional time was used to offset the vagaries of the delay
imposed by weather and material difficulties. Reports from Melville and Miami
had strongly indicated that the prescribed two week period was all too short
a time in which to effectively follow the Shakedown Syllabus. The complaints
did not, apparently, fall on deaf ears, and a change was effected as previously
mentioned. The (2 week) shakedown syllabus as employed by both shakedown details is
presented below.
