Hello. I am relatively new to this site, and this is my first post. I enjoy all the information and comments and find them very helpful.
I came across a thread about a card model of the Elco 80 ft PT Boat. For anyone interested, the model is available at Ecardmodels.com for 12.00. I have one and am very pleased with it. This seems to me to be the best alternative to the pricey plastic models. And on this site there are free to download upgrades that will make your model into PT-109 (with 37mm), and PT-157 (with nose art). there is also a set of torpedo tube improvements and the 37mm auto cannon for those who want that. The model is available in gray, green or disruptive schemes. The nice thing about downloading is that once you own it, you can make as many variations as you have time an space for. No, I do not work for them..I just appreciate something affordable for a change.
You can also find sites on the web to download other models free, including a 1/100th scale PT-109.
But I have a question: I saw a comment (somewhere)that PT-190 is regarded as the highest scoring PT of WW2. Can anyone confirm that? Thanks for a great site and I look forward to hearing anything from anyone there.

Hi Lou,
According to the National Archives, PT 191 was the most successful of the boats in New Guinea with 18 enemy barges destroyed. But it didn't end there. On 27 December 1943 PT 190 Jack O' Diamonds & 191 Bambi were returning to their base at Dreger Harbor, New Guinea when they were attacked at dawn by 28 IJN fighters and dive bombers in Vitiaz Strait between New Britain and New Guinea. A long running 5 minute gun battle began as the boats headed for a rain squall. They were rescued by USAAF P-40s & P-47s fighters but not before the PT gunners shot down 4 of the attackers.

For more information on PT 157 Aces N Eights, check out the outstanding book by Bridgeman Carney titled First-Up Chronicles of the PT 157. Also take a look at the Model Builders Notebook by the same author.
