Jeff;
Is there anyway to email this as an attachment? It won't download for me.
Take care,

Fascinating reading there Jeff. I was looking for some gems in there but not much. They didn't spend a lot of time with these logs, did they? Some references to other boats which is interesting. The books have lots of opportunities to enter information but they just didn't do it. A few key points, times, and that's it. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any reference to painting of boat, torpedoes dislodging from tubes, etc. That said I'm glad you shared it with us. It was worth taking the time to read through.
Ted, I'm wondering how this compares to logs you kept on your boats.

Dave;
Extremely vague, only stuff of value here is the patrols with other boats(40, 45, 59, 60, 65, 118, 124, etc) The meat is in the lost logbook such as aiding John Iles and PT 48 during storm off M'Banika Island, Russell Islands, in July 1943. The thing I find odd is from the 19th to the 30th of June 1943 they did nothing,,,,no patrols??
Yeah our logbooks had a little more.
Take care,

Based on the head's up from others that viewed the logs I wasn't expecting much. Reading it was pretty much like getting socks for Christmas. Ah well, it was still good to see it.

Well...the 25/26 year-old JFK had a lot better penmanship than he later did as President (when his signature looked like chicken-scratch).
Lots of movement from Tulagi (Sesapi) to the Russells and back, then back to the Russells (hadn't realized the 109 did that much back-and-forth between the two bases), lots of mooring in the bushes, refueling, and chronicling the uneventful patrols we all knew the boat made under JFK...
Still, fascinating. Thanks, Jeff.

Drew;
Its only 70 - 75 miles from Tulagi to Searlesville, and 200 miles and change to Lumbari Island and Bau Island, Rendova. They used to go back and forth from Rendova to Tulagi a lot also. Even into 1944 and after Bau Island Rendova became a repair and training base. This is reflected a lot in RON 3(2) 1944 War Diary on Fold3.

Jeff;
What I did find interesting was LT. Les Gamble went out on 109 it says in command, I imagine as OTC, other ops had LT. Clark L. Murray (RON 6) and ENS. Alexander Wells (RON 6) in command. Another interesting item is LT. John L. Mote as OTC, Mote was the one who picked up Eddie Rickenbacker , I guess he transferred to Tulagi with Al Cluster since both were originally in RON 1 DIV 1 which went to Funafuti. I wonder if Mote was RON 2 Exec under Cluster?
Take care,
