My father in law was assigned to RON 5 from 9 Dec 1943 to 21 Jan 1945. Can someone tell me where the squadron was assigned during this time?
Through general reading I've come up with : Tulagi, Rendova, Green Island, Emirau & Mios Woendi. Is there anyway to verify these locations?
I received his service records from St Louis. It shows that on 20 January 1945 he was transfered to RON 20 . On 21 Jan he reported to RON 20. Then on 22 Jan - he was transfered to the Receiving station at San Diego for assignment to Advance Torpedo School.
Why would he be reassigned for just one day to RON 20 ?
Thank you for any insight.

From 'At Close Quarters',
'Squadron 5 was assigned to Panama Sea Frontier from Sept 1942 until the spring of 1943, when it was shipped to the Solomons. There its boats were in action at Rendova, Vella Lavella, Treasury, Bouganville, Green and Emirau. After assignment to the Southwest Pacific area at the end of 1944, the squadron was decommissioned and its boats were distributed to replenish other squadrons which had suffered operational losses. "

Earl;
Returning to RON12 must have been great, but speaking as a Boatguy, and seeing PT 108 RON 10 a lot must have been cool and sad for you at the same time, I know how a guy learns to love a boat. I know I do.
Take care,
