All;
In Al's and John Lambert's book Allied Coastal Forces: Vol 1,(I have not seen Vol 2), Al has all the ELCO Hull numbers listed, while recently looking at a set of photos Jeff posted in Jan 2009. I noticed a photo(D-6857) of a boat being built at the Higgins plant and a sign in front of it says :" B 8659 Keel Laid on APR 19th ". Well using NAVSOURCE I discovered that the only Higgins PT that had its Keel laid on any April 19th was PT 482 RON 32, which was laid on April 19, 1944.
Does anyone have a list of all Higgins PT Hull Numbers???
Take care,
TED

Jerry;
Thanks, but that is not what I am looking for. what I am looking for is factory Hull Construction Numbers:
Example : B 8659 is the Higgins Factory hull construction number for PT 482
These 4 digit numbers on a Higgins PT are burned into the Stem of the bow inside the forward compartment(forepeak). If it is still there that's where it is on PT 658. should be: B 8697
On an ELCO they were burned into the Hull frame in the bilge(starboard side) around frame 22-25.
Thanks to Al, I have ALL the ELCO Hull Construction Numbers. I am asking if anyone has a list of the Higgins Hull Construction Numbers.
Take care,
TED
Notice the B 8659 number on the placard.PT 482 only higgins laid on 19 April 1944, This was the date the photo was "supposedly" taken. |

Hey Randy,
What is that frame number location? I am going to look for the same type number on PT658 Thursday to see if I can find it. Is that in the overhead of the CO Stateroom? Jerry

Hi Ted,
I looked in the Forepeak yesterday for the number and it was nowhere to be seen. I even lifted up the deck plates-walking flats and looked under them. Is there any other place this number may be located that you know of? It is possible that the number may be located beneath a patch plank near the covering board and shear clamp, but in my opinion that is doubtful. Thanks Jerry

Jerry;
No I don't know where else it could be located. how much of 658 was replaced? it might have been on a repaired/replaced piece.
Take care,

The engine room second frame port side above the blower. I will check with Jerry he has some of the original papers and plans from the Higgins plant on city park ave. that may have the hull numbers.
