I got this crazy idea that I wanted an out of the box build of the Revell Elco kit as a point of comparison with my 109 build that I'll be sharing an update on with you shortly. I decided I would add NOTHING to this kit which I hoped would make it a quick build. Unfortunately there are some many ejector pin marks, flash, and just plain terrible casting that it of course took longer than expected to get it to an acceptable state.
I also decided that I wanted to do an out of the factory paint job. This is the Standard Gray paint scheme consisting of Light Gray 5 on the hull and Dark Gray 5D on the deck and above. I really love this scheme and not sure why the Navy decided to change it to Measure 1 5D all over.
I just added the a clear coat to protect the paint and prepare to add the decals. I'm going to mark it somewhere between PT-110 and PT-117. Does anyone have any recommendations? I only have one reason for these numbers and that's because of the bit on the foredeck which change starting with PT-109. No, I'm not doing PT-109! I'll post some final shots soon.
PS. Don't ask me why I torture myself this way. I may need professional help. :-)

Its OK, Dave, we understand!
The PT 103-class 80' Elco PT boat of WWII, even though it was designed and built to bring death and destruction to the United States' military enemies was -- and is -- a thing of beauty, any way you look at it.

Hmmm Dave,
You might need professional help but I think Drew is beyond it!!
As to your request for a boat number how about the 115, there is a nice shot of her from above entering Tulagi with the 20mm and Torp tubes a fairly clean boat before any field mods were done.
Must admit though the Elco boats did have nice lines to them.

"Beyond it",
"lost it",
"lost the plot",
"Out back with the roos" (kangaroos for those that wonder),
"Gone trop'o"
"Gone Native",
"(Gone) over the hill", (this one can also refer to being to old)
Good Aussie slang for one that was seen to have a problem that could have been fixed but it is now to late!
Got it?
Know what I'm trying to say?
Understand the way I am putting it?
I still say the Elco boat has nice lines to it!!
Sorry Drew having a bit of fun at your expense, I'm in a good mood, have a good day mate!
Yours,
D.buck |

I think somebody's been at the torpedo juice!
Nice paint job Dave, I like the scheme too.
That old Revell kit has some graceful hull lines.

No sweat, Dave (Buck), I get it .
You're probably right, as I've been fascinated with the (mainly 80' Elco) WWII PT boat since JFK became President and I found out about them, about 55 years ago.

I'm going to add some rigging on the mast but here's the completed 10...err... 115 model. Completely out of the box. I used some aftermarket decals for the numbers as the kit decals were in bad shape. These were more appropriate anyway. I'll take some better photos later and show you the final photos of my updated 109 boat.
This will be the last Revell 109 kit I EVER make!

To rip off Cool Runnings: "Are ya dead man?". Because that's when I'll believe that statement!
