i was reesearching the national ww2 museum in new orleans to try and get info omn the pt300 for colleen.they did not have any but my informant there advised me that some of tyhe higginss company company records were burned in a fire.my iinformasnt also advised mme to contact the university of new orleans as some records were donated to them for their library.i have so advised colleen of thiis.
the musem is also rebuilding a pt boat for viewing by visitors.they have some files buit if any of you want further info on the higgins pt boats you might contact the university librartian

I am currently doing a 1/20th scale Higgins Hellcat, and have found the information on the UNO web site to be very helpful. However when I tried to deal directly with UNO on some specific prints I wanted to purchase they were less than helpful. The story I got was that some of the prints are so large, the UNO does not have the ability to copy them, and they need to be processed by a third party, a blueprint copy service.

Between the online prints I was able to enlarge, and some critical photos provided by forum members I was able to create the necessary drawings for my project.

Larry,
I volunteer on the 305 project and have personally been through the plans that UNO has. It's not a runaround that they cannot copy them in house. Some of these plans are six feet long or more. There is even one that is 16 feet long. It's very specialized equipment needed to copy these, and UNO has authorized a local company to copy them. That is the process we had to go through to get reproductions for the restoration. It is normal for many archives to use third party companies to get high quality reproductions. Even the National Archives requires researchers to hire an outside party to have some materials reproduced.

As for Higgins documentation, there is very little left. The company was sold in the 1950s and much of it was thrown out by the purchasing company. The UNO library really only has the plans and some of the company publications. If someone is looking for information on a specific boat, there's really nothing at the UNO library to help, unfortunately.

I did not mean to imply that I thought I was given a runaround, after the size element was conveyed to me I enquired how and where I could get the prints copied. Speaker told me she was immersed in a large project at the moment, but would get back to me. A significant period of time passed, I called again, lady said she remembered me and would reply shortly, I am still waiting, so draw your own conclusion.

A friend & I are heading to New Orleans the end of Feb and are interested in the actual Higgins factory location. I tried to do some research and understand Higgins had 7ish operations but would love to see the location where the PT's were built. Does anyone have that address ? I assume it maybe a parking lot or empty lot now, My Dad was on the 224 from factory pickup to the end of the war. The WWII Museum of course is on the must do list.

The PT boats were built in at the City Park plant in 500 to 600 block of City Park ave. moved to bayou ST John and launched north of the 610, They were tested and moved to the industrial canal plant for its armaments. There are several other locations 1700 St Charles ave .
the Michoud plant 13800 Old Gentilly blvd now the NASA assembly plant. You can call me when you are in town

Thanks so much for the info & the offer. Sorry for the delay in responding as I had trouble finding my password.

We made the trip to New Orleans. The WW II Museum is excellent with the highlight of course seeing the 305 under renovation. Another son of a Higgins PTer was on the same tour. We also walked the blocks you mentioned in the City Park area and found the RR tracks.
