Earl;
I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year! What was Christmas 1943 like in the Solomons?
Take care,
TED

Merry Christmas Earl. As always, good to hear from you. I too am very thankful to be home with family and friends at Christmas time. I am also thankful to God for the freedom that we have in the U.S.A. Christmas 1943 our Squadron 19 was operating out of Treasury with Squadron 9 and Commander Kelly. We were sent there after the base fire at Vella La Vella. As I recall we had been out on patrol Christmas Eve but was off Christmas night. We had a noon meal of turkey and all the trimmings which was really a treat because as you remember fresh meat was not served very often. After dinner they issued 2 bottles of beer to each of us. The first beer we had seen since coming to the Solomons. I still keep in touch with my crewmates at Christmas time. There are 4 of us left out of fifteen.
