Thank you JB, great closeups and details of the Packards going in. They had some kind of engine lift inside the hull?

The air driven torpedo tube work was cool too, as was the torpedo loading on PT 157.

Jeff;
That's Ted Berlin's PT 167 RON 10. The Higgins PT is C.J.'s PT 242, both leaving pier area early in film and later in the floating drydock, I don't know what number the Elco is in the floating drydock, maybe C.J. remembers.
Take care,
TED

Ted: No I don't remember the number of the Elco boat. At about the 13-40 point on this film it shows out PT 242 having an engine lowered into the engine well. I can identify the motor macs and crew members in the picture. ( Trosclair,Cooper, Meyers ,Metcalf, Grace). Mr. McLane our skipper is watching there by the engine well. I am not in the picture since I was a torpedoman and was not involved with the replacement of the engines I was probably up on the bow under the tarp. We received two engines that day 1/22/44. Our whole Squadron 19 was at Rendova at that time. Our squadron 19 had been on duty patrolling Jap held islands for 10 weeks straight so we were relieved for R and R. One half of all our boat crews and half of the base force were given two weeks R and R leave in New Zealand. They all left for New Zealand on 1/27/44. My name was not drawn so my half of the crew stayed at Rendova and worked on the boat. Put two new twin fifties deck mounted on the bow and scrapped and painted the bottom of the boat. We were promised a leave later but it never happened. Our Squadron was off patrol duty until about March 10,1944 when we went to Green Island and started patrols up on New Britain, New Ireland Northern Bougainville, and Buka..We patrolled out of Green until the middle of November,1944 when my boat crew was relieved for 30 days leave back in the States.

C.J.
Thanks. Watching this film and the other longer Rendova film and being able to contact you, Pat and Earl make it even better. Having you guys with us is just great. At this stage, there seems to have been more cameras around the boats, Do you think this was made by a Navy "PR" type, a news guy, or a Squadron/Flotilla guy?
Take care,
TED

Jeff, I was looking at the video to see what was there. Looks like once down in the engine room it was being slid sideways, perhaps on some sort of rails or dolly mechanism, as there is clearly nothing holding it from above. Perhaps Jerry can fill us in here.
