As part of the Sutphen family donation to my Exhibit, yesterday I received a box with many treasures from Henry R. Sutphen. Included were several framed photos that hung in his office at Elco.
Included were three They Were Expendable Books, which on their own was not a big deal but I decided to open the books. Each one had a signed inscription from Lt. John D. Bulkeley, one to Henry Sutphen, one to his son Preston Sutphen, and one to Sutphen's wife Martha. The one to Preston was unique in that Bulkeley actually wrote down and listed what each boat did while in the Philippines.

Frank,
Congratulations on the Sutphen family donations. By being in existence, you come into some great memorabilia. An uninformed family member might have gone through these things and thought , "Who needs three copies of some 72-year old book?" and tossed them into the recycling bin. Those inscriptions by John Bulkeley are priceless.
I know some of the Goobers on the Forum like to give you a hard time, but you're not nearly as dorky as they say. As Michael in 'Stralia would say, "Good on ya, mate..."

Ross thanks so much although I doubt I have heard any of the guys call me dorky at all, and trust me if they did it wouldn't be to my face. Kind of a back handed compliment in that message Ross, but I have to say it was probably meant in a positive light.

Dorky in my neck of the woods means strange nerdy guy good to have as a friend, Dork on the other hand has conations of what the word describes at least to us AUSSIES, 'Stralia is I think a strange place below the Antarctic circle before you reach the Antarctic ice shelf, very hard to find as it makes your compass go silly the closer you get to it.
So Ross was paying you an Aussie compliment.
Where'd he get that from?
For myself I can only say that you have been handed a very wonderful piece of history and that to be seen as someone that they wished to hand this to should make you proud that your efforts to keep the PT Boat story alive reach many out there and in more ways than you realise.
Well done Frank.

Ha, Will you made me laugh.
Seriously, Frank congratulations!
I have asked you before, but I will ask you again.
When could Bob and I come and see your exhibit?
Do you have any plans to have it set up for public viewing?
We would love to see it.
