Hi all,
Thanks to Jeff's wonderful drawings and some photos, I was able to work with a company called click2detail to create some 3D printed high resolution flash hiders. Individually they are the size of a grain of rice. I received my samples yesterday and attached one to the Italeri kit part. I have not done any sanding or smoothing of the part. It is in it's raw state as you see it with paint added. Holding it up against photographs I think proportunately it is close to perfect.
The attached photos show some up close views. From normal viewing distance they look great. I really did these for myself but recognize that others may be interested in them too. I'm not sure yet how many I'm going to order but if anyone is interested and willing to contribute to the cost I'll get some made for you. We can figure out how to work out payment later. Maybe on ebay? I would also be interested in your comments.
FYI, I'm not getting into the modeling business. This is just among friends.
Take care
Dave
PS. Yes, the barrel is hollow!

Very cool David, and thanks for the kudos. Wow those are tiny... I don't see how you can glue them on so cleanly and so straight.

I had them include a recess to accept the end of the gun barrel. So that helps. I used a product called Gator's Grip (PVA glue for modelers) to secure it to the end which gave me some time to work with it. Unlike CA glue it also allows you to clean up any excess glue with water.

Depending on price, I would be interested in 5-10.

Count me in for eight of 'em.
We'll also need 'em if Italeri does the Elco second-series 77-footer...

I got the invoice for the flash hiders. They are going to cost $1.25 each which is my cost. I'm not going to try and make money on these. Before I put in my order let me confirm what you guys want. I think shipping will be a couple of bucks. So to outfit a boat you would be looking at 4 of them at $5.00 plist another $2.00 for shipping. If you want more than 4 I'm sure the postage would be about the same. Let me know if you have any questions.
Take care
Dave
