Following the release of the Merit Elco 80 kit I am making available several other US hulls in 1/48th scale starting with the SC-497 class Subchaser. These will be available for shipping as from Monday, priced at 50.00 pounds. If this proves popular I will do the 83ft USCG Wheeler as well as the other PT Boats which will be 40.00 pounds (Elco 77 and 70, Higgins and Huckins). Feedback please gents, I want to know which ones to prioritize.

Thanks,

Christian

Tops on my list would be the 77 Elco, followed by the 78 Higgins, then 70 Elco (from which you can also do Scott Paine PT9 and Canadian Power Boat PT's 368 to 371) and then the 78 Huckins PT's..

Hi Christian,

I'll be wanting one of the SC hulls in 1/48th. You already know my input on the Huckins. Next would be the Higgins, then the 77ft.

Don't know how strong the stand alone hull market will be in 1/48, but any kits in 1:48 will have the added benefit of the O scale model train market. I think a subchaser kit would have the potential of being especially popular for train folks modeling waterfront scenes (salt water). They are always looking for small big ships to fit in limited space and like to also model small dry docks to show off the full hulls.

Hi Andy

I will send you your Subchaser hull next Monday. I will do all the other hulls mentioned in that case, over the course of the next couple of months. There is a good source of 1/48th fittings and guns here;

Is anyone aware of a US supplier?

Thanks,

Christian.

I posted pictures of the SC-497 class hulls in 1/72nd, 1/48th and 1/24th scales on my Facebook page, also a couple of shots comparing this hull to the WWI Subchaser, There are several models out there depicting the WWII SC built on a WWI hull with painstakingly scratchbuilt upperworks and all the effort is wasted by using the wrong hull.
