Does anyone have any good drawings or photos showing the MK-2 Smoke Generator. Stan needs it for building Ken Prescott's PT-61. Also anyone know the placement of this generator on the stern. In one of the photos that Wayne Traxel sent to me it looks as though it is on the stern a bit off center, but I can't really tell.....................

Hi Frank,
I have posted these before, they are in the book found on the HNSA website called "Ships Chemical Smoke Munitions" manual. Hope this helps, Jerry

PS Frank I have seen numerous photos showing that different boats would mount the Smoke Generator in several different places near the stern. Some boats had it along the aft port or starboard rub rail,(ie PT305) then others have it centered athwartships along the transom. Then again others place it fore and aft on the centerline. I think it depended upon what each boat skipper preferred at the time of installation. Just my 2c!

Here is a Mk2

Different removable nozzles could be mounted for various spray rates and coverage, Did you notice the word "ELCO" written on the handle of the wrench?

Mark 1 FS Smoke generator has two tanks, one has CO2 and the other has smoke liquid

Book that explains it all on the HNSA website

Thanks Jerry I do have this information, what I do not have is a drawing or measurements. In fact, does anyone actually know the true measurements of an Elco smoke generator for say late war Elco or Higggins?

Frank-
The Roll 310 drawings include the base for the Mk2, and the deck framing plan is referenced which allows the generator to be placed properly. I had to eyeball the rest of the unit to create my 3D Print model in 1:24. Should have my first sample shortly!

Frank;
The MK II in Jerry's post is what PT 61 carried from the day she was placed in service until at least MAY 1943, which is the date of Ken's PT 61 photos. As can be seen in Jerry's posts, the MK I does not look like the same measurements as the MK II. On PT 61 a smaller CO2 tank was mounted upright at the head of the titanium tetrachloride tank and toward centerline. Here are some photos, but this is your lucky day! I am sending you a blueprint of PT 61, that Wayne sent me years ago, to your private email.

Frank,

Are you building a PT61 or have one built? I am building one at 1/20 scale and have a few questions as it will be the (late 1943) gunboat version.

Lee just click on my Email icon on the top, and you can E Mail me with your questions. My boat is being built in 1"24 scale and is the early version of the boat when Ken Prescott was in Command. At that time she did not carry any Radar, roll off racks, or MK-XIII Torpedoes. All she had was the 20mm Cannon on her stern and of course her twin .50 caliber guns.

Here is where I am at on my smoke generator for the PT61 (Oct. 1943 gunboat conversion). Will add a few details and finish paint. The tank is Frank's but with the cap end turned down. The rest are scrap and spare pieces.
