Hi All and Mr. Ross,

In my search to track down the Crash Boats of Green Island (1944), I found Crash Boats mentioned in a report from the Pacific Fleet, Commander Naval Bases, South Solomon's Sub-Area from May, 1944. (see link)

http://home.centurytel.net/wwii3945/CrashBoatsGreenIsland1.pdf

Four boats are mentioned as traveling to Green Island, I have yet to find out if the boats were for Green or other bases. The Boat Numbers mentioned are as follows: Crash Boat C-24376, Aviation Rescue Boats, C-21008, C-26625, & C-26672.

If anyone has information on these boats or, ideas on tracking them down, I would appreciate it. Does anyone know how the boats were inventoried? Which entity was responsible for them? I think Mr. Ross mentioned that the USAAF had their boats and the USN / USMC had theirs. Green Island had air elements of all three branches. Given that this report comes from the Commander of Naval Bases, perhaps the boats were assigned as property of the Base?

Thanks,
Robert

Robert,
I have many photos and info on crash boats that ended up with the Sea Scouts.
My unit had a Korean war Mark 5 built in 1956.
