Al;
What an absolute shame, she looks in very original configuration and very decent shape for 1986. From these photos, she was the most originally configured boat in civilian hands, that I have ever seen.
This was originally ENS. Robert R. Green's (he retired a CAPT.USN) boat in PTC RON 1, He wrote me two lengthy and detailed letters of his time in PTCRON 1, RON 2 and as ELCO SHIPSSUP for the entire 77' series. While Buckley and Kelly were in Florida with PTC 1-4, he was Admin RON CO back in the Brooklyn Navy yard. He also supervised the turn over to RN of the 70' PT's and PTC's. After this he did a stint as weapons instructor at Melville, then transferred to Destroyers. LCDR Robert Robinson Green commanded USS Fletcher DD-445 Mar 14 1945 - Jun 15 1946.
ENS. ROBERT ROBINSON GREEN, USN PTC RON1 AND RON2.(Shown here as a midshipman USNA '39).
Thanks for sharing.
Take care,
TED
P,S, CAPT ROBERT R. GREEN, USN AUG 60 - AUG 62

Al, thanks so much for the great photos. I love seeing the old boats. My records show that she came back in 1945, and was still possible around as late as 1991, and was being restored. Any truth to this.

Al,
Thanks for sharing some of your immense well of knowledge! I love seeing these old photos as well. It would have been awesome to have a restored original early Elco boat to run around with. I wonder what became of the boat?

Thanks Al, certainly not the happy ending I was hoping for. Breaks my heart that the only 77 footer alive today is in Kingston, NY, and nothing or no one is doing anything to save her.
