Hi,

I'm currently nearing the end of my PT-562 build but I'm struggling for decent photos of the wind deflector fitted to it, especially side on views and any close ups, so that I can scratchbuild it.

If anyone can help with some photos I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks

Toby

Toby;
Here are all the photos I could find:

PT 507 RON 34 Miami 1944.

PT 504 RON 34 June 1944

PT 511 RON 35 England 1944, notice the end of the foil.

PT 518 RON 35 24 JUNE 1944, notice the windscreen connection point of the foil.
I hope these help, I am looking forward to seeing photos of your model.
Take care,
TED

Thanks Ted, they're fantastic. I'll try and get some photos of the build up tomorrow morning before work.

Cheers

Nice Ted, I don't remember seeing those last 2 photos before. Is that MacArthur in the last one?

I don't know if it will help Toby, but Dick Washichek gave me permission to post some drawings of the 103-196 & 314-367 series including the wing which seems to have some similarities: http://www.pt103.com/images/Italeri_Page_Dwg_Bridge_Airfoil_Wind_Deflector_PT175_196__314_367.jpg

The quality isn't the best but some of the details might help.

Jeff,

Thanks for the drawing. I've printed it out, but its still a little difficult to read. I'll see how it is under a magnifying glass. I can work out the shape of the deflector which is very helpful.

On the subject of my boat, I'm also looking for wiring diagrams or photos showing the location of the wiring for the radar mast and the bridge searchlight. I have some phootos but they are not definitive.

I'd be grateful once again if anyone could assist.

Many thanks

Toby

Jeff;
the photo is:24 June 1944
Ferrying RADM Kirk and General Eisenhower to a landing craft as they set out to tour the Normandy beaches on D+18
Left to right: Rear Admiral Alan G. Kirk, Commander Western Naval Task Forces; General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force; Lt(jg) Hutchinson DuBosque, USNR, CO, PT-518 and Ensign William Shaw, USNR, XO, PT-518
I don't know who the third officer is at the far left.
Take care,
TED

P.S. Toby, for your model, notice in last photo the "lock-tight" fastener on side of windshield used to tighten foil in upright position, in the photo of PT 511 and also 504, you can see a smaller one was used on the side of the foil itself, to lock foil into desired angle to deflect wind.

Toby,

As I recall, somewhere on this Forum, someone posted a screen capture from the film "They Were Expendable" which shows most of the end plate and arm of the starboard side one of these airfoils in closeup.

The thread was about the boat's small, snail shell-like horn, which was mounted outboard on the starboard side of the cockpit.

Its not much, but this is from the movie TWE. I overexposed the frame grab to try to bring out more detail, only partially successful.
