I ran across some 1942 .50 manuals that I found interesting, they show the early slotted barrel jacket on the aircraft version of the gun:
TM 9-1225, 1942, Ordnance Maintenance: Browning Machine Gun, Caliber .50, All Types
http://www.digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc29982/m1/1/
TM 9-225, 1942, Browning Machine Gun Caliber .50, M2, Aircraft, Fixed And Flexible
http://www.digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc29988/m1/1/
The 1944 version of TM 9-1225 is much expanded, a .pdf of it can be found here:
http://www.pt103.gdinc.com/manuals/TM_9_1225_50_Cal_MG_1944.pdf
The UNT site doesn't have .pdf's of the manuals, post here or e-mail me if you want to have a copy of all the page images I saved.
