A gentlemen had said to me that he thought the Ron 37 boats had their 37mm Cannons removed before they went to the Med. Anyone confirm this and why. I have photos of 557 with the 37mm on the bow while serving with Ron 4.

That could be right, Frankie. I don't have any photos showing 37mm mounts in the Med. Lots of Thunderbolts, though.

I was going through a few that I had, and I didn't see them, still I have no reason why they would take them off, and then put them back on.

Frank:
Standardized Armament package, when the RON 29 boats (557-559) were transferred to RON 4 on 23 November 1944 , they became Training Boats for the new students, so they were retro fitted with latest weapons package, ie: rocket launchers, 37mm, etc. plus there was still the possibility of them being transferred to the Pacific, when they came back from the Med.
Take care,
TED
